Betsy DeVos Has Been A Champion Of The American Student For Decades

For those too young to remember, Betsy DeVos has been serving the people of the United States for many years as a reformer of its educational system. While many people who become involved in politics are self-serving, she has always worked with the economically disadvantaged in mind. Every year, DeVos donates millions of dollars of her own hard earned money to educational nonprofit causes and organizations who need it the most. In 2015, it was shown that the Dick and Betsy DeVos Family Foundation had donated close to a quarter of all of its donations for the year to the educational sector. This amounted to more than $7 million, which is just the beginning of what DeVos has done for her nation.

Betsy DeVos was born in Holland, Michigan, which is a city with lots of Dutch connections. The Dutch community in the city has been an inspiration to DeVos because of its belief that every school deserves equal funding. As it stands today, public schools in the U.S. receive the majority of public funding, while private and charter schools are left to fend for themselves. Betsy DeVos believes this is a travesty and has fought for most of her life to make a change in the American educational system.

In Michigan, Betsy DeVos joined her husband and helped to push legislation through that has helped many poor families send their kids to a good school. She has also been a part of more than one organization that has promoted educational reform. She helped to create the Great Lakes Educational Project, which served to help expand charter schools in Michigan. Her work with the project helped inspire many people to look at the broader changes that could be made in the U.S. regarding its educational system.

Today, Betsy DeVos continues to fight for the rights of Americans by supporting politicians who support educational choice. The purpose of educational choice is to help students in the country whose families cannot afford to pay for the cost of charter and private schools. Many states have already passed legislation that covers these costs, and millions of students have benefited from this. DeVos has commented that Indiana, Louisiana, Pennsylvania, and Florida are all shining examples of states where educational choice has taken root. She has gone out of her way to praise Florida, specifically, for being a leader in this effort.

Betsy DeVos is known for making donations that are not earmarked. This allows the beneficiaries of her giving freedom for how the money is spent. DeVos has donated her money and time to more educational causes than can be listed in one article, but some of them have included Kids Hope USA, the Foundation for Excellence in Education, and Potter’s House Christian School. She has made a real difference in the lives of countless American students and has pledged to do more. While many politicians and community leaders talk about what they plan on doing, DeVos is out there in the real world taking part in the good fight for the educational rights of countless U.S. citizens.
