During the war, Alastair served as a lieutenant and a private investigator. He would interact with the enemies without them recognizing who he was. This made his trust among his workmates to soar higher and earned respect from them.
Later, Alastair wrote his second book, which mainly touched on the life of a soldier during the war. It showed how the army would fight endlessly and later on be appraised because of their works. Borthwick wrote the book with a very touchy feeling, which turned out to be an eye-opener of what soldiers go through during wars.
Borthwick also rejuvenated rock climbing, which was a leisure time activity that had become extinct. This activity was mainly for the who-is-who in the society. Alastair aimed at making it be adopted by all members of the community regardless of their status.
