How Guilherme Paulus Uses Creative Marketing To Boost His Hotel Chain

Entrepreneur Guilherme Paulus hasn’t been named as the Entrepreneur of the Year, among his many other awards and recognitions, for no reason. He has done nothing less than building the largest tour company in Latin America followed up by doing the same thing in the hospitality industry. He is known internationally for making Brazil a worldwide travel destination.

He comes from humble beginnings. Guilherme Paulus earned a business administration and then was hired on at IBM’s Brazilian operations as an intern. His drive and ambition exceeded what he could realistically do at IBM and opportunity presented itself when he met a Brazilian government official. They talked about their mutual desire to open a travel agency and, as he didn’t have the money to do such a thing himself, the government official supplied the money to get it off the ground while Guilherme Paulus supplied the know-how.

This is CVC Tours just about single-handedly kick-started domestic tourism in Brazil. Before long he started marketing in international markets, bringing people in from around the world to enjoy the sights and sounds of Brazil. In order to get enough people to work in the travel industry, and to help out low-income families with good-paying jobs, he sponsors the National Project of Professional Initiation in Tourism. This initiative gives young people the skills to work in that industry and advance their careers.

His hospitality firm is GJP Hotels & Resorts. This company, named after his initials, started with just one hotel and built out from there. He now has 20 hotels and resorts in Brazil with plans to build more. His hotels are very family-friendly with plenty of activities for kids to engage in such as climbing wall, nature trails, and swimming pools.

Guilherme Paulus also brings travelers to his hotels by emphasizing the culinary experience. He developed a “Flavors of the World” marketing campaign, for instance, which had cuisine from around the world with a focus on Italian, Brazilian, and Argentinian foods. He also started the “Chef for a Day Family Tradition” campaign where families got to decide what would be served at some of his hotel’s restaurants.
